The organization for DSSIG activities in 2006 are
well under way. We have inserted the flyer for our next Twilight
Education Session which is to be held at Como Private Hospital on
Tuesday May 9th, 2006. We encourage you all to attend and meet with
your colleagues in the day surgery industry.
The DSSIG Committee is excited to be presenting a Paediatric focused
Conference this year. In doing so, we are hoping to ease some of
the stresses that many adult Day Surgery nurses experience, when
paedatric patients are on their lists. We will be covering a number
of topics including paediatric emergencies, the basics of incorporating
paediatrics into adult centres, paediatric anaesthetics and what
stresses children and parents face when they are booked for surgery.
We have already managed to secure some great speakers for you.
You
will find a preliminary flyer with this letter and a conference
brochure and registration form will follow shortly. This year, we
decided to have a ½ day State Conference, as the Australasian
Day Surgery Conference is being held, in Melbourne, in November.
A ½ day conference allows us to keep costs down, which should
allow many of you to put some money towards this additional educational
experience, not normally offered.
The Australasian
Day Surgery Conference will be a two day event, held at the Grand
Hyatt Hotel in Melbourne on Friday November 10th and Saturday November
11th.
We will be giving
away two Registrations to the Australasian Day Surgery Conference
at our State Conference. These are valued at $395 each. And, of
course, there will also be the usual donation of prizes by our loyal
Trade for giveaway.
DSSIG is in
the process of applying for CNE points for our State Conference.
This is an exciting and progressive development as many of our centres
are already using a points system as part of our appraisal process.
We are also
delighted to be able to release the next set of Best Practice Guidelines
for Paediatrics at our State Conference. This is the first time
they will have become available and are the result of many hours
of dedicated work by ADSNA. They will be available for purchase
at a special price at the Conference, which will be a valuable addition
to your Day Surgery Best Practice Guidelines.
This will also
be followed by the August edition of Day Surgery Australia having
a paediatric focus. By the end of this year, we should all be feeling
much more confident when we have children attending our centres.
If you have
not received or misplaced your calendar with the remainder of our
activities for this year, it can be accessed via the website www.adsna.info
and following the Victorian link.
Looking forward
to catching up with you all through out the year.
