December, 2002. President's Report Dear Colleagues, At the AGM held 7 September 2002 I accepted the nominations as President of the NSW DSNA for the next term of office. I am very mindful of the fact that those whom I follow have left huge shoes to fill but I look forward to the challenge. A number of committee members did not stand for re-election and resigned from the committee. To the outgoing committee members a heartfelt thank you for all your hard work and dedication over a number of years. Your legacy will live on in the foundations of this committee. To the incoming committee I extend a very warm welcome and look forward to working with you all over the coming year. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Rhonda Williams of Sydney IVF for allowing the DSNA to use her facility for the AGM and half day seminar in September. The day was a huge success. The education evening hosted by Mona Vale Hospital was very well attended and the audience updated on how other hospitals are managing the day to day challenges in a Day Surgery Unit. I attended my first ADSNA Meeting in Adelaide on 19 October and have to report how fortunate we are, as Day Surgery Nurses, to have such dedicated, hard working and visionary people in our corner as those on the ADSNA Committee. They are committed to giving freely of their precious spare time to contribute to the ongoing improvement in the working environment for you and I. |
The Best Practice Guidelines are almost complete and should be available for purchase by February 2003. Yet another mammoth task undertaken by the ADSNA Committee. The next year promises to be very exciting. The International Conference will be held in Boston in May so start saving. Don't forget your committee has established a Scholarship Fund to offer some financial assistance to our members to attend such conferences. The bi-annual State Conference will be held in Sydney in September and of course the regular education sessions will continue. If you have any topics you would like to hear more about or you would like a session to be held at your hospital please contact the committee as we always welcome new ideas and suggestions. As this is the last Day Surge for 2002 I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I look forward to working with you all in 2003 to advance Day Surgery Nurses. uuuu Know anyone who'd like to join? Do you know anyone in your area that would be interested in joining our association?
