President’s
Report
My
first year as President of the Australian Day Surgery Nurses
Association has been an exciting but challenging year.
I
am pleased to say that we have achieved many things for our members
and am conscious that I have been in the fortunate position of
pulling together many things that committee members have been
working on over the past few years.
The
greatest achievement for this year has been the publishing of
the 4 guidelines and the response has been fantastic. Copies have
been sent to Health Departments, Auditors, Unions, Public Hospitals,
Private Hospitals, and Doctors surgeries.
The
new look journal has continued to become more and more impressive
with its increased number of articles and peer review. This has
enabled an increase in the number of advertisements, which has
lessened the financial burden of the journal.
I
believe that we have raised the profile of ADSNA significantly
within Australia with 3 ADSNA on the ADSC and subsequent input
to the Day Surgery handbook and close involvement with the national
conference organization, the great response to the guidelines,
the increased use of the web site and the journal.
We
have also raised the profile of ADSNA internationally with our
Poster presentation in Boston and my invitation to represent Australia
on the IAAS. We have been able to continue to pursue affiliation
with international organizations and have one international member
to date.
The
state conferences this year have been a great success and a credit
to their state committees. I have enjoyed attending 3 of them
and look forward to attending more in the future.
Next
year should also be an exciting and rewarding year with our involvement
with the National conference along with Denise O’Brien’s
visit, further guidelines being published, more journals, more
articles and more meetings!!
My
challenge to the incoming committee is to put processes into place
so that the workload can be more evenly shared so we can balance
work, family and ADSNA commitments more effectively.
I
would like to acknowledge the work that Rhonda Williams has done
as secretary over the past 2 years. (not to mention the catering
and transporting for us when we are in Adelaide) I wish her all
the best with better health and hope we can catch up at state
and/or national conferences.
Finally,
many of us have had difficult times personally as well as professionally
throughout the year. I would like to thank each one of you who
have supported me both personally and in this role as President
and I look forward to working with the new committee in the coming
year.
